How to add a visual signature to a PDF
Use a signature-style image to place a visible signature mark on a PDF page.
The PDF Canvas signature tool creates a signature-looking image from text you enter. You can place that image on a page like other added visual content.
Step-by-step workflow
- Open PDF Canvas, choose your PDF and navigate to the page containing the signature area.
- Choose the Signature tool and enter the name or text you want to display.
- Review the preview and use the available appearance options.
- Insert the signature image and position it in the intended area. Adjust its size using the editor's selection controls.
- Download the edited PDF under a new filename.
- Open the downloaded document in a separate PDF reader. Check the signature, page number, nearby text and any date fields.
What a visual signature does—and does not do
This tool places a visible mark on the page. Do not treat that mark as proof of the signer's identity, tamper protection, a certificate-based digital signature or a qualified electronic signature.
If the recipient requires a specific signing service, identity verification or a particular signature standard, follow that process instead. This guide does not assess legal validity for a particular document or jurisdiction.
Practical checks
- Use only your own signature or a signature you are authorized to place.
- Read the full document before adding a signature mark.
- Keep the mark within the signature area and avoid covering other information.
- If a date is required, check that it is present and correct; do not assume inserting a signature adds one.
- Keep an original copy and check the exported document before sharing it.
